Aqua-News!

Not only is 2009 the year Star Trek makes a comeback, but apparently it's the year for Aquaman action figures! Aquaman himself is being released in July, while his foe, Ocean Master is released in December. These two figures are based on the art of George Perez, the artist for Crisis on Infinite Earths!Also due out in May is an Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis action figure. Although I'm not a fan of this version of the character, I'll be picking this figure up because it's based on the incredible artwork of Shane Davis, a favorite artist of mine!
Now all DC Direct needs to do is turn the cover of the first Aquaman mini-series (with the blue costume) into one of those JLA: Cover to cover statues and I'll be a very happy camper!

Aqua-News!

I know it's been a while since I posted something other than wallpapers or Star Trek movie stuff, here's a recent bit of news that caught my eye. Warner Brothers has replaced the mural that graced the Burbank studio at Olive and Pass Avenues. Here's what's now in that very spot:
So of course I'm jazzed to see the Hall of Justice and all the heroes, but best of all, there's Aquaman, popping from the left of the WB logo!

The Big 'E' Revealed!

Here's a link for everyone who wants a closer look at the new Enterprise! There are a couple of videos that show the lighting pattern of the warp engines, as well as a gallery of great close-up shots of the ship!

I like the new ship! The only part that bothers me a bit is the extended deflector dish. I'm pretty good with everything else. I notice a lot of inspiration came from the previous movies, but I guess there are only so many things you can do to that design and still have it be recognizable as the Enterprise.

It's Here!

The highly anticipated Watchmen movie opens today! The adaptation of the classic graphic novel by Alan Moore has had many starts and stops, but it's finally here! Added to that, the third Star Trek trailer is attached to the movie, meaning a lot of people are going to see it!

It's available for viewing at the Official Movie Site, but be warned, it contains content deemed to be major spoilers! (I've heard the trailer and I would agree)

Once I download a hi-resolution version, I'll post my impressions.

Poll Results

The last poll asked which Chief Medical Officer was your favorite and the results are in!!It was a close race, but in the end The Emergency Medical Hologram takes the lead with 41 percent of the vote! I have to admit, The Doctor is one of my favorite characters from all the series. And following a close second with 35 percent of the vote, is Doctor Leonard McCoy. 'Bones' was my personal choice for favorite. DeForest Kelley is a hard act to follow!
Beverly Crusher, CMO for Captain Picard, brings in 11 percent of the vote! Beverly was another great character, but this is a tough category, so don't be too hard on her.

Doctor Bashir from Deep Space Nine and Doctor Phlox from the NX-01 Enterprise each got 5 percent of the vote. Again, these characters were really good... this is a really tough category.
And finally, getting no votes at all was Doctor Katherine Pulaski, the doctor that replaced Beverly Crusher in Season 2 of Star Trek TNG. No surprise really, she was written as a female version of Doctor McCoy with none of his charm or compassion. I was glad to see her character leave the ship.

Seal Cove Dolphin Update

Here's an update the story I linked to yesterday.

While it's true the trapped dolphins fates never be known, but at least they did something. Isn't rendering assistance to any creature in distress one of those qualities that make us uniquely human?

A Job For Aquaman

This news story saddens me. I feel for the children who might get upset, but in the end, the expert in whale rescues says this is 'natural morality' for this particular species of dolphin. That may be true, but it also means I would feel compelled to help the dolphins if I lived in that town. The fact that you can hear the dolphin's distress would be more than enough to convince me to help in some way.

During DC Comics' Final Night event the world was cooling down because our sun's energy was being consumed by a creature called (appropriately enough) a sun-eater. During this cooling, the earth's oceans to begin to freeze over. Aquaman had a series at the time and in the obligatory DC Comics Event® crossover, Aquaman realized he couldn't save every mammal in the oceans as he was racing to save the one dolphin that was like a mother to him. I won't spoil what happens, other than to say it's a great story.

Too bad it's only serialized fiction.

Big Game TV Spot

A new Star Trek commercial aired yesterday. It's available on the Official site and it's called Big Game TV Spot! Go take a look!

We get to see a cool cityscape and an attack on Earth. This one has more Kirk but also features McCoy (we finally get to hear Karl Urban speak) and features the Enterprise in battle. I think the ad will appeal to a wider audience than just Trekkies, but then it has to be when you're paying millions of dollars for a 30 second ad.

Looks very good and May 8th is getting closer every day!!
