Star Trek Into Darkness

I'm not a huge fan of the rebooted movies. I thought the casting was phenominal, but the writing fell short of Star Trek standards, in my humble opinion. The newest movie has done nothing to make me want to revise my initial assessment, unfortunately. I won't spoil it for you, but there is one thing that really offended me.

In the movie, Christine Chapel is mentioned by Alice Eve's character. Unfortunately, it's as a past romantic encounter of Jim Kirk's, who was treated so shabbily by him that she signed onto a deep space ship and is now finally finding happiness. I find it offensive to treat Majel Barrett's character like that. It's rude and pretty much precludes Christine Chapel ever being on the Enterprise in the new universe. Why would Roberto Orci and Damon Lindeloff treat Majel's character with so little respect? Even after she graciously lent her voice to the Enterprise in the last movie!

For shame.

Star Trek Style!

Check it out! I know mixing the 23rd and 24th centuries is kind of verbotten, but it still looks good! (I know, I'm biased) And yes, the Original Series Comm Panel actually works! It makes the familiar Boatswain's whistle sound when you press the white button. It also has a sensor that triggers when someone crosses the threshold. Depending on the setting, you can hear either the Enterprise doors opening or a red alert klaxon. It was a gift from my pal Karen, who picked it up at Calgary Comic-Con this year!

At Red Alert!

From further away to show scale, using the door.
